KDS Windsor Launches New Industrial Mechanical Group

KDS Windsor, a leading manufacturer of lumber drying systems, has officially launched its Industrial Mechanical Group, expanding its capabilities to meet the growing demand for expert field service, maintenance, and mechanical installation work across the wood products industry.

With over 100 Continuous Dry Kilns (CDKs) in operation globally, KDS originally built its service team to support its systems in the field. But over time, customer needs evolved, and so did KDS. What began as a support crew for CDK customers has evolved into a full-service mechanical division, now available to serve mills of all types, regardless of whether they own KDS equipment.

Today, KDS Windsor operates five dedicated mechanical crews and has over 100 skilled professionals in the field, providing a range of services that include kiln rebuilds, equipment installation, fabrication and welding services, as well as air control and material conveying systems. That’s a major differentiator in an industry where most manufacturers outsource services, or, in some cases, don’t offer any support services at all. At KDS, the people who build the equipment are also the ones who maintain it.

We kept hearing the same thing from customers: “We trust you more than anyone else to touch this equipment,” said a KDS field supervisor.

The Industrial Mechanical Group offers:

  • Preventive maintenance & service contracts
  • Emergency repairs & on-site troubleshooting
  • Kiln rebuilds, burner retrofits & ductwork fabrication
  • Steam/thermal piping, refractory systems & structural steel installation

Backed by in-house fabrication, fully equipped service trucks, and a team of seasoned kiln experts, the Mechanical Group combines boots-on-the-ground speed with deep product knowledge, something most third-party contractors can’t match.

Whether it’s a sawmill in Virginia, a panel plant in Florida, or a hardwood kiln in Texas, the KDS Industrial Mechanical Group is built to keep operations running at full steam.

KDS Windsor Completes CDK with Virtual Tour Access

Greenville, NC—KDS Windsor is excited to announce the successful completion of a state-of-the-art continuous dry kiln (CDK) system designed to deliver an annual production of 150 million board feet. This achievement marks another milestone in KDS Windsor’s commitment to innovative, high-capacity lumber drying solutions tailored to meet demanding industry standards.

The CDK system, incorporating KDS Windsor’s patented DrySpec® and DryTrack® technology, is engineered to optimize drying rates, quality, and efficiency. Featuring a robust reverse flow double-track design, the kiln integrates several phases—preheating, drying, cooling, equalizing, and conditioning—within a single extended chamber. Advanced control and monitoring systems maintain precise moisture and temperature levels, ensuring consistent output and high-grade lumber quality.

In an exciting addition, KDS Windsor is offering a Matterport virtual tour of the installation, which is accessible here: https://www.kdskilns.com/virtual. This interactive tour features a user-friendly menu, allowing visitors to navigate to specific kiln components. Each area is enriched with Tags, providing pictures, videos, and detailed text that highlight the kiln’s advanced features and functionality. By providing an in-depth view of this complex machinery, the virtual tour demonstrates KDS Windsor’s commitment to transparency and education in the lumber drying industry.

Key features of the project include:
• 50MMBTU Green Sawdust Gasification Burner: This system generates clean, efficient energy using sawdust, reducing environmental impact and enhancing sustainability.
• DrySpec® and DryTrack® Controls: These controls enable precision drying and real-time monitoring, achieving superior moisture content consistency and product quality.
• Innovative Energy Recovery Design: Divided into multiple sections, the energy recovery modules optimize airflow, enhance heat distribution, and significantly reduce energy costs.

“Completing this project underscores our dedication to pioneering kiln technology. We are equally proud to offer a virtual tour, enabling others to experience our innovation firsthand,” said Nick Miletich of KDS Windsor.
