Conversions of Batch Kilns to CDKs
KDS Windsor offers conversions of existing batch kilns to CDKs. These conversions on average will increase production of the existing batch kiln while using no additional thermal energy. This represents an approximate fuel savings of 30% per board foot dried. In addition, the lumber is equalized and conditioned for superior surfacing through the planer and the process improves grade and moisture content standard deviation over and above what is possible in the batch kilns.
Reskins
Achieve 20%+ improvements in charge time
We evaluate each kiln and custom design reskins to extend the life and improve drying performance, at a fraction of the cost of a new kiln. Upon evaluation, we decide what equipment can be reused and what requires replacement. Typically, we reuse existing concrete, structure, heat plant, heat distribution (direct-fired), and fan system.
KDS Windsor has a 3” thick, full-length panel design with internal and external flashing. Our panels include horizontal tie bars to keep wall panels from bulging. The roof vent system is custom sized and are pneumatically or electrically controlled. We can install barn or carrier style load doors depending on site requirements. This design is used for KDS Windsor batch kilns and steel series CDKs, and is a proven, well-engineered design with robust connection.
Heat Plants
KDS Windsor offers retrofits and upgrades to existing heat plants to achieve superior burning and gasification. We service Ed Bahr burners, green sawdust gasifiers, natural gas burners, steam and thermal oil.
Kiln Controls
Control Systems for new kilns and for upgrade projects include choices from basic Partlow digital recorder controller systems to full PLC-based computer controls featuring Allen Bradley software.
In all cases, the KDS Windsor kiln controls package is designed for a simple operator interface and maximum performance.
