Job Description
KDS Windsor is seeking an experienced Traveling Millwright/Journeyman to join our team. This role requires the employee to be based near our Etowah, NC shop location. You will split your time between our manufacturing shop and field assignments, traveling to installation projects throughout the US, primarily in the mid-south and southeast regions.
In this position, you will work on a wide range of mechanical systems, including batch and continuous lumber drying kilns, wood waste heat plants, and other industrial equipment in various factories. Responsibilities include expert rigging, welding, fabrication, and installation, while ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols and delivering work to the highest standards of precision and craftsmanship.
This position requires travel for assignments lasting from one week to one month at a time. Candidates must have the physical ability to work in diverse environments and lift or maneuver equipment as needed.
Qualifications
- Welding Certification, including AWS, is preferred.
- Rigging Certification, including NCCCO or equivalent, is preferred.
- Aerial Lift Certification.
- OSHA 10 Construction Certification.
- Mechanical fabrication and welding experience is preferred.
- Hoisting and rigging are preferred.
- Experience with industrial kiln installation is a plus.
- Experience in the wood or lumber industry is considered a plus.
Job Duties
- Install, assemble, fabricate, and troubleshoot mechanical systems, with a focus on lumber kiln equipment but including a variety of other mechanical systems, by interpreting specifications, blueprints, and precision measurements, while strictly adhering to all safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations to ensure a safe and efficient work environment for the entire team.
- Fabricate and join metal components as needed and perform rigging operations to safely lift and position heavy equipment and components during the installation process.
- Communicate with the Field Superintendent and the internal project team throughout the entire project process to address any issues that may arise.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the site Superintendent, shop floor manager, and team members to ensure project milestones are being met on time and within budget.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues or malfunctions to resolve them, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient project completion.
- Document and maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation procedures, equipment specifications, and safety documentation.
Requirements
- Ability to travel 80% of the time.
- Minimum of 2 years of specific experience and/or training related to the essential functions of the job; or equivalent combination of education and training.
- Must be proficient in using all construction hand tools, torches, welding machines, and measuring devices.
- Ability to work in hot environments, both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to demonstrate creativity and initiative in attacking and solving problems.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to collaborate with members of the team and clients.
Salary and Benefits Package
- $23.00 /Hour
- Per Diem $59 /Day
- Paid Mileage $.70Per Mile
- Hourly position with potential for OT each week (5-day/8-hour weekly shift, unless specified otherwise by the Field Superintendent).
- Profit-sharing bonus is paid once yearly.

Additional Requirements
